NEWTON, Iowa (AP) - A baby sitter whose dog mauled a 4-year-old girl to death has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.

The Des Moines Register reports (https://dmreg.co/1eWZVIQ ) that 26-year-old Jena Wright received a 10-year prison term Monday for neglect of a dependent person, 10 years for child endangerment, one year for assault on a peace officer and two years for interference with official acts.

The sentences imposed in Jasper County District Court will run concurrently.

Wright was accused of leaving 4-year-old Jordyn Arndt unsupervised with her American Staffordshire terrier, Brutus. Wright was baby-sitting the girl when the dog attacked in April 2013. The dog was later euthanized.

Court papers say Wright assaulted Prairie City Police Chief Louis Modlin during her arrest.
