MALIBU, Calif. (AP) - Los Angeles County authorities say a 29-year-old man who slipped beneath the waves in rough surf was later found dead at Malibu’s Zuma Beach.

County Fire dispatcher Art Marrujo says the man, whose name was not released, was reported missing at around 3:45 p.m. Sunday after a lifeguard saw him disappear into the surf.

Marrujo says six lifeguard units, one paramedic and a helicopter were deployed to find the man. He was spotted in the water about an hour later and pronounced dead.

KNBC-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1IV1h2U) swimming conditions at Zuma were so rough on Sunday that lifeguards made some 70 rescues.
