ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - Authorities say an Orlando police officer is in stable condition after being run over during a traffic stop.

The incident happened early Monday as the officer tried to stop a car.

The Orlando Sentinel (https://bit.ly/1gwVIN5 ) reports the officer was working an off-duty assignment at a McDonald’s when he tried to stop a silver four-door.

Police say the passenger got out of the car and started running as the officer approached the car. When the police officer tried to stop the passenger by going around the car, the driver accelerated. The car ran over the officer, who then fired at the car.

Police are searching for the driver and the passenger. They haven’t said why the officer was stopping the car.

The incident was caught on the officer’s dashboard camera.
