SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - Police are looking for a suspect who they say tried to steal a car and then fired five shots at the vehicle owner.

The Santa Fe New Mexican reports (https://bit.ly/1fD9HRp) a man woke up in the early morning hours on Sunday when he heard what sounded like someone breaking into his car.

Santa Fe Police Department Capt. Jerome Sanchez says the would-be thief fired five or six shots at the vehicle owner, missing him and hitting the car and house.

The suspect fled on foot.

Police are investigating the shooting.
