SALEM, Ore. (AP) - Republican state Rep. Knute Buehler says he’s thinking about running for governor.

The freshman lawmaker from Bend sent an email to supporters Monday asking for advice about whether he should run for governor or seek re-election to the Oregon House.

Buehler is a surgeon who ran for secretary of state in 2012 but lost to Democrat Kate Brown, who was elevated to governor earlier this year when John Kitzhaber stepped down.

Brown is widely expected to run next year to complete Kitzhaber’s term but she has not confirmed her plans.

Salem physician Bud Pierce has also announced plans to seek the Republican nomination for governor.
