CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - The warden of a prison closed in 2012 has retired after 29 years with the state’s department of corrections.

The Nevada Appeal reports (https://bit.ly/1CBQdGO) 50-year-old Gregory Smith marked the end of his job at Nevada State Prison at a retirement party Saturday that was attended by 200 people.

Smith says he’s been invited to help open a new restitution center Sept. 1 in Reno.

He said closing the 150-year-old prison was a challenge, and that he’ll probably spend his time after retirement learning to umpire and perhaps running for office.
