NATCHEZ, Miss. (AP) - Six candidates have applied for the vacant Natchez fire chief position.

Three of those candidates include battalion chiefs Chris Gibson, David Williams and Aaron Wesley - all who have been with the Natchez Fire Department for 30 years or more.

The other three candidates are from out of state. Only one has interviewed face-to-face, while the other two have interviewed over the phone.

The six applicants were chosen from a longer list of applicants compiled by the Natchez Civil Service Commission.

Mayor Butch Brown said the board would discuss the six applicants during an executive session Wednesday.

While the city is without a fire chief, the department is being led by its four battalion chief.
