WAXHAW, N.C. (AP) - Authorities say a driver has been charged with driving while impaired in a wreck that killed a Waxhaw teen and injured six others.

Multiple media outlets report that 20-year-old Kemthia Garlins of Monroe is charged with DWI in Saturday night’s single-vehicle crash near Waxhaw.

North Carolina Highway Patrol spokesman Jeff Gordon says Garlins was driving an SUV with six passengers when she ran off a road and hit a tree. Trooper John Burgin says Autumn Nichole Plyler died at the scene.

Authorities say Garlins and the other passengers were taken to a hospital. Their conditions were not known.

Burgin says alcohol was found in the vehicle, and Alcohol Law Enforcement is investigating. Burgin says more charges are pending.
