BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries says the 2015 commercial fishing season for greater amberjack in state waters will close at 12:01 a.m. Sunday.

That’s when the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s fisheries division is closing the commercial season in federal waters.

Officials say data from current landings indicates that the 2015 Gulf of Mexico commercial quota of 409,000 pounds will be harvested by July 19.

State and federal waters will remain closed to commercial amberjack fishing for the rest of 2015.

NOAA Fisheries says the closure is needed to protect the fish.
