WHITEFISH BAY, Wis. (AP) - Police in a northern Milwaukee suburb say an officer has shot and wounded a man that had “multiple knives” when he encountered officers called to the home for family trouble.

Whitefish Bay Police Chief Michael Young said the call for help came about 6 p.m. Monday. Young says the man was conscious after he was shot and flown by helicopter to a hospital.

Young says the shooting is under investigation by the Milwaukee Police Department and Milwaukee County District Attorney’s office. He says the officer involved in the shooting is a nine-year veteran of the department, and has been placed on administrative duty pending the investigation.
