SPEARFISH, S.D. (AP) - A Black Hills State University student who was struck by lightning over the weekend has died.

The Black Hills Pioneer (https://bit.ly/1fKiYqZ ) reports student Gage McSpadden died Tuesday. McSpadden and another student were injured during a storm Sunday in Spearfish.

Police in Spearfish say McSpadden was struck directly by lightning, while Evan Strand was struck indirectly by a bolt when they were at the Spearfish Canyon Disk Golf Course.

Black Hills State communications director Corrine Hansen says the students, who were part of the school’s cross country and track and field teams, were transported to a Denver hospital for treatment. Strand’s condition is unknown.

McSpadden was a senior from Rawlins, Wyoming, majoring in special education. Strand, from Gillette, Wyoming, graduated in 2014.
