BROCKTON, Mass. (AP) - A 26-year-old Brockton man has been held without bail after pleading not guilty to killing another man during an illegal after-hours party last weekend.

The Enterprise of Brockton reports (https://bit.ly/1MtYjBt) Luis Fonseca was arraigned Wednesday on charges including murder in the death of 25-year-old Gilson “Patrick” Monteiro.

Police say Fonseca shot Monteiro in the chest early Sunday morning. The Plymouth District Attorney’s office says dozens of people paid a cover fee to enter the party and alcohol was being served.

Monteiro died from his injuries at Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital.

Fonseca was arrested Wednesday morning. He was on probation after being found guilty of carrying a dangerous weapon in February 2014. A probation surrender and probable cause hearing is set for Aug. 14.
