NEW ORLEANS (AP) - The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management says it will offer nearly 22 million acres offshore Texas for oil and gas exploration and development in a lease sale that will include all available unleased areas in the western Gulf of Mexico.

New Orleans CityBusiness reports (https://bit.ly/1TFdP1M ) the lease sale will be held in New Orleans Aug. 19. It will be the eighth offshore sales under the Obama administration’s five-year Outer Continental Shelf Oil and Gas Leasing Program.

A news release Thursday said the sale will include 4,083 blocks in water depths ranging from 16 feet to more than 10,975 feet.
