MITCHELL, S.D. (AP) - Authorities say a 62-year-old man has died in a crash near Mitchell after the truck he was driving rolled over and came to rest partly underwater.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol says the driver in the one-vehicle accident was identified as Kevin Gardeman of Corsica. The Highway Patrol says he was driving a Ford F800 truck loaded with lumber Wednesday when its wheels went off the pavement.

According to the Highway Patrol, Gardeman overcorrected the truck, and it went across the roadway and into a ditch. The cab of the truck was partly underwater, and Gardeman was trapped.

The Highway Patrol says people at the scene tried to save Gardeman, but he was pronounced dead. The agency says he was wearing a seatbelt, and alcohol wasn’t a factor.
