WICHITA, Kan. (AP) - A child has been taken to the hospital after authorities say she was locked in a hot car in Wichita.

Authorities say fire crews responded to a call of a child in a locked vehicle in the parking lot of a grocery store around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. Wichita Fire Battalion Chief Andy Cole said the child’s mother arrived at the vehicle around the same time crews did. Cole said the mother unlocked the car and got the child out.

Police did not say how long the child was in the car.

The Wichita Eagle reports that according to the National Weather Service, the temperature in Wichita at the time of the incident was 91 degrees with a heat index of 95.
