LEWISTON, Maine (AP) - The Lewiston, Maine-based St. Mary’s Health System is naming the vice president of a New Jersey health care system as its new president.

The system says it is naming Christopher Chekouras of Shamong, New Jersey, as its new president and CEO. He is the senior vice president of post-acute and community-based services at Virtua, a southern New Jersey health care system with three hospitals. Chekouras will replace Lee Myles, who is retiring from St. Mary’s in October. The system made the announcement on Wednesday.

The health system includes St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center and St. Mary’s d’Youville Pavilion, a nursing home. Both are located in Lewiston. St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center has 233 beds. A hospital spokeswoman declined to release a salary for Chekouras.
