FARGO, N.D. (AP) - A man serving time on a state counterfeiting charge has been sentenced to more than a year in prison for a federal counterfeiting conviction.

Nathaniel Lee is charged in federal court with manufacturing counterfeit obligations. He pleaded guilty in April.

Authorities say the 25-year-old Lee passed the phony money between July and September 2014. He’s accused of manufacturing or attempting to manufacture more than $5,000 in bogus bills.

A public defender argued that the federal sentence should not be tacked on to the state sentence, but U.S. District Judge Ralph Erickson ordered that Lee serve an additional 15 months in prison.
