SARASOTA, Fla. (AP) - A Florida mom has been charged with child neglect after authorities say her 15-year-old son overdosed on heroin.

Cynthia Hyer’s son overdosed on July 3 but doctors were able to resuscitate him. Sarasota County Sheriff’s deputies interviewed the mother Wednesday and she admitted her home was a “flop house” where people can use drugs.

Authorities said she was aware that two women took her son with them to purchase heroin and that her son was also using prescription drugs. She also said her son had missed more than half of the school year before dropping out.

The Sarasota Herald-Tribune (https://tinyurl.com/p7elyys ) reports she said she had not pursued any intervention for her son.
