EMERYVILLE, Calif. (AP) - A Northern California man was sentenced to 10 years in prison for his role in operating a sex-trafficking ring based in the massage parlor he owned.

The California Attorney General announced Thursday that 55-year-old Jimmy Gong Lee in May pleaded guilty to charges of pandering, bribery and tax fraud in state court.

Lee also pleaded guilty in June to federal bribery charges. The bribery conviction stems from Lee’s $24,000 payment to a police captain posing undercover as a corrupt officer threatening to shutter the massage parlor unless he was paid a bribe.

Lee’s attorney Brandon LeBlanc said it’s expected his client will be transferred to federal prison once he’s sentenced for the bribery and serve his federal and state prison terms simultaneously.

Investigators said Lee exploited vulnerable women.
