MORENO VALLEY, Calif. (AP) - A Riverside County sheriff’s deputy has killed a man authorities say attacked a family member, another person and a deputy before he was fatally wounded.

The Riverside Press-Enterprise (https://bit.ly/1O9iAwI) reports the shooting happened about 6 a.m. Thursday. That was three hours after deputies responded to a call of a mentally unstable man attacking a family member at a Moreno Valley home.

Authorities say when deputies arrived the man attacked one of them before fleeing the home. The deputy was hospitalized with what were described as moderate injuries.

Three hours later deputies came across the man at the scene of a stabbing. They say a deputy opened fire when he charged at them.

The man, whose name was not released, died at the scene. The stabbing victim was hospitalized.
