FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) - The prosecution’s star witness in a string of murder trials in Flagstaff won’t spend any more time behind bars.

Shane Anagal was sentenced this week in Coconino County Superior Court to five years of probation and time served.

He pleaded guilty last year to assisting a criminal street gang and agreed to testify for the prosecution against three men charged with second-degree murder. Authorities say 23-year-old Juan Hernandez was stabbed nearly two dozen times in a fight between rival gang members.

Mike Lessler of the Coconino County Attorney’s Office tells the Arizona Daily Sun (https://bit.ly/1RCoXPm ) that Anagal fulfilled his obligations.

Defense attorneys for the three men tried to discredit Anagal with some success. One man was acquitted, another pleaded guilty to manslaughter and the third was convicted of second-degree murder.
