NARRAGANSETT, R.I. (AP) - Police have identified a 14-year-old girl from Massachusetts who died while snorkeling with her father along the Rhode Island coast.

Authorities on Thursday said the girl was Maia Stanton from the Southfield section of New Marlborough in western Massachusetts.

Police say Maia was snorkeling with her father, Jeremy Stanton, on Wednesday afternoon in waters off Narragansett when she did not resurface. She was reported missing and was found more than two hours later on rocks about 50 yards off shore.

Rescue personnel performed CPR at the site and Maia was brought to South County Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

Police say there were no signs of foul play and the girl’s spearfishing equipment was found intact.

Her death remains under investigation.
