SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Police have arrested a suspect in the break-in of a woman’s Salt Lake City apartment and the stabbing of her and her dog.

The Salt Lake Police Department reported on Twitter that they had located the man Wednesday night. His name and details about a possible motive haven’t been released.

The attacker had broken into the second-floor apartment Wednesday afternoon while the woman was asleep. He reportedly struck the woman in her head and then stabbed her in the stomach. The dog was also stabbed.

Salt Lake police detective Cody Lougy says the woman, in her 20s, was able to fight off the attacker and escape. She was taken to a nearby hospital in serious condition. She and her dog are both expected to survive.

This story was corrected to show that a suspect was arrested.
