ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - Police say it was a man armed with a knife who was making threats that caused a lockdown at a St. Paul hospital.

Authorities say the man was sitting in a car with a woman and a baby outside the Regions Hospital emergency room when the incident began about 6:30 p.m. Thursday. Negotiators were eventually able to convince the man to hand over the baby while the woman remained in the car.

The Pioneer Press (https://bit.ly/1MxS3Jc ) reports that when the man began cutting himself with the knife they used a stun gun to subdue and arrest him. He was being treated at the hospital for the self-inflicted wounds.

The hospital was locked down for about an hour.
