AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - An Austin police officer has been suspended for three days after officials say he repeatedly failed to follow protocol after being involved in five on-duty car crashes in one year.

The Austin American-Statesman (https://atxne.ws/1e4ga6k ) reports Keith Allison was suspended Wednesday for failing to notify a supervisor he was involved in a car crash before leaving the scene.

According to a memo from the Austin Police Department, Allison was involved in a single-vehicle crash on Jan. 22 that damaged a wheel. The document says Allison called 18 minutes after the incident as he drove to a service center.

The memo said he had been told at least three times in the past to notify a supervisor before leaving the scene of an accident.
