CASPER, Wyo. (AP) - The Casper police chief says a man shot and killed at his home last weekend by city police had posed a lethal threat to officers.

Casper Police Chief Jim Wetzel says 27-year-old Christopher Benton presented a threat to officers who entered his home Sunday night. An autopsy shows Benton died of a gunshot wound.

State investigators say Benton was armed when he was killed.

Officers went to Benton’s home to serve a search warrant based on allegations of distributing and trafficking drugs and illegal gun possession.

Three officers involved in the shooting are on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the state investigation.

The Casper Star-Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/1faIC7s) that the Natrona County Coroner’s Office will release Benton’s full autopsy report in about two months.
