SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) - A Chattaroy woman is being held in the Spokane County Jail on a second-degree murder charge stemming from the death of her 5-year-old nephew.

The Spokesman-Review reports (https://bit.ly/1KcI8Lw ) that Cynthia Khaleel was taking care of Gary Blanton III after he lost both of his parents.

She called 911 on April 17 to report the boy had fallen out of bed and knocked himself out.

The boy later died at Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center of brain injuries. Doctors reported he had a fractured skull and large bruises on his elbow, hip, leg, hip and arm.

After a monthslong investigation, detectives said Blanton’s death was not accidental.

Khaleel, who also uses the last name Rose, is being held on a $100,000 bond and was to appear in Superior Court on Friday.
