DETROIT (AP) - A career fair is scheduled by the Detroit Public Schools as the district looks to fill open teaching positions for the upcoming academic year.

Interviews will be held onsite Saturday at the Hotel St. Regis in Detroit.

The district anticipates upward of 300 openings due to retirements, separations and new program offerings.

Applications are being accepted for all teaching positions, but the district says there is a critical need in early adult education, special education, mathematics, secondary science and world language.

Opportunities for immediate placement are limited, but conditional offers will be provided to qualified candidates at the career fair.

The event is for new applicants. Teachers currently employed by the district do not need to attend.
