BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - New York state is opening a new workforce training center in a building on Buffalo’s east side that sat empty for a quarter century.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo traveled to Buffalo on Wednesday to make the announcement. The new Workforce Development Center will offer training for advanced manufacturing and electrical and clean energy jobs.

The state plans to allocate up to $29 million from Cuomo’s “Buffalo Billion” economic development initiative to pay for the new center.

The Democratic governor says successful workforce training is a key part of efforts to reinvigorate the economy in western New York.
