DENVER (AP) - A 54-year-old Leadville woman accused of running her boyfriend over with a car, killing him, has been charged with first-degree murder.

The Denver Post reports (https://goo.gl/dZcuUg ) Maria Day is being held without bail in the July 8 death of 55-year-old John Alexander Martinez.

According to an affidavit, the officer who arrested Day said she smelled of alcohol or “burnt marijuana” after the fatal crash, and she acknowledged to police that she ran down her boyfriend.

Day is the first person charged with first-degree murder in Lake County in more than 15 years.

A message left with the Summit County public defender’s office, which is representing Day, was not immediately returned Friday evening.
