NEWBERG, Ore. (AP) - The police chief of Newberg, Oregon, says he has been placed on administrative leave but hasn’t been accused of any wrongdoing.

KGW-TV reports (https://is.gd/iRWJjT ) that Chief Brian Casey says he hasn’t been able to determine exactly what is happening or why.

In a statement, City Attorney Truman Stone said the city has hired an independent consultant to assess its police department. He says the assessment is administrative and not criminal. He declined to provide further details.

The investigation is expected to take two weeks.

Newberg City Council members learned of the move Wednesday in an email from the city manager.

The station says City Manager Jacque Betz did not immediately respond to calls seeking comment.

Newberg is southwest of Portland.
