SOMERSWORTH, N.H. (AP) - Police say an amber alert has been canceled for a 1-year-old they say was abducted by his father in New Hampshire.

Authorities say Malachi Grant was found safe in Maine early Friday morning. Police say 33-year-old Jeremiah Grant took the boy from his Somersworth home Thursday afternoon while his mother was distracted and fled in a vehicle.

Police say a Franklin County Sheriff’s deputy spotted Grant driving in Farmington, Maine. The deputy chased Grant before he was eventually taken into custody.

Officials say Grant is from Maine and is listed on the state’s sex offender registry.

He is being held there on a fugitive from justice charge.

Police say he will be extradited to New Hampshire to face interference with custody charges and other offenses.
