NEW MILFORD, Conn. (AP) - Connecticut State Police say a 32-year-old man avoided a trooper’s gunfire during a chase through several towns that ended with a crash and his arrest.

Police say a trooper tried to stop Kenneth Lyden of Wolcott for speeding on Interstate 84 in Newtown at about 3 a.m. Friday, but Lyden sped off.

Police say Lyden avoided stop sticks on the highway and drove off the road at a trooper who fired one gunshot that struck Lyden’s vehicle.

Authorities say Lyden was arrested in New Milford after crashing, fighting with officers and being shot with a stun gun. Several troopers were treated at a hospital and discharged.

Lyden is charged with assaulting police and other crimes. His response to the allegations isn’t known. It’s not clear if he has a lawyer.
