KENNEWICK, Wash. (AP) - A former Richland nanny charged with the 2011 death of a toddler is facing her second trial in the case.

The Tri-City Herald reports (https://bit.ly/1Jn7wZj ) that 31-year-old Kelli Jacobsen has been charged in Benton County Superior Court with first-degree manslaughter. Opening statements in the trial are to begin July 20.

Jacobsen has been accused of killing Ryder Morrison, who died in the hospital a day after his first birthday. Doctors say he had suffered abusive head trauma.

Jacobsen’s first trial in 2013 ended in a mistrial after jurors deliberated for 19 hours and failed to reach a unanimous decision.

Jacobsen is now being represented by attorney Shane Silverthorn of Ellensburg.
