TARRYTOWN, N.Y. (AP) - Construction of eight 42-story-tall towers could start next month on New York’s Tappan Zee (TAP’-uhn zee) Bridge.

The Journal News (https://lohud.us/1J4gLC1 ) says work is wrapping up on two giant concrete islands. Each will serve as the foundation for four towers.

Construction work abounds throughout the 3-mile, crane-filled section of the Hudson River between Westchester and Rockland counties.

The first crossing is scheduled to open to traffic in December 2016.
