HARRISONBURG, Va. (AP) - A 44-year-old Harrisonburg teacher and track coach has been fired after his arrest on felony charges he had a sexual relationship with a student.

The Daily News-Record (https://bit.ly/1KaUWzi ) reports that former Turner Ashby High School social studies teacher Michael Douglas Stover had his contract terminated Thursday night by the School Board.

The firing occurred after Stover was charged with indecent liberties with a minor and use of electronic means for the purpose of indecent liberties with a minor. He turned himself in Thursday and was released on a secured bond.

A news release from the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office says the alleged activity occurred outside of school.

The newspaper said it reached out to Stover for comment, but he hung up the phone.
