ANDERSON, S.C. (AP) - A woman has been sentenced to one year in prison for a boating accident on Lake Hartwell last year that killed two children.

Prosecutor Chrissy Adams said in a statement that 53-year-old Dawn Thompson pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter Thursday.

Circuit Judge Cordell Maddox also ordered Thompson to serve five years of probation.

Prosecutors say Thompson was driving a boat that capsized as it approached a dock last August. Nine-year-old Christian Henderson and 5-month-old Timothy Dragoo died.

Prosecutors say Thompson’s blood alcohol level was just below the legal limit in South Carolina when she was tested five hours after the boat overturned.

A dozen people were on the boat. Natural Resources Department Sgt. Ray Lewis said the 19-foot boat was about 500 pounds over its weight rating when it capsized.
