MASON CITY, Iowa (AP) - Workers have demolished a building in Mason City that once housed a popular restaurant.

The Globe Gazette reports (https://bit.ly/1HV48E0 ) crews on Thursday knocked down the brick building that once was home to the Kansas City Steakhouse.

The city ordered the demolition of the building in December 2014, noting the former restaurant’s roof had collapsed and that vandals were entering the structure.

The family that once owned the steakhouse also had another restaurant in Mason City called the Cornerstone. That downtown restaurant was closed to make room for a bank.
