LAS VEGAS (AP) - Police say a man was shot by officers early this morning at a Las Vegas hotel after allegedly pointing a gun at them.

Police Capt. Matt McCarthy says an employee at the Shalimar Hotel heard gunshots around 12:45 a.m. in a back parking lot.

McCarthy says the employee went to investigate and saw a man sitting on the ground holding a firearm.

The employee immediately called 911.

Responding officers say a man came out of one of the rooms and brandished a gun at them.

McCarthy says two officers fired at him.

The suspect was taken to the hospital, where he remains in stable condition.

Police are not identifying the suspect but say he is a resident at the Shalimar.

McCarthy says the investigation is still ongoing.
