FARGO, N.D. (AP) - The defense for a Fargo man accused of killing his roommate a year ago will start presenting its case on Monday.

The prosecution rested Friday in the case of Christopher Hampton, who’s charged with murder in the shooting death of 28-year-old Randall Doehner. The two were cousins.

KFGO-AM reports (https://bit.ly/1HGsXEo ) the state’s final witness Friday was Dr. Mark Koponen, a pathologist who said the evidence shows Doehner was shot from more than two feet away.

Koponen said the gun used in the shooting was a .22 caliber and that the bullets hit Doehner in the back and head.

Hampton claims Doehner was trying to poison him and has pleaded not guilty.

He could face life in prison without parole if convicted.
