WAVERLY, Iowa (AP) - A jury has acquitted former Oelwein Mayor Jason Manus of sexual abuse.

The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports (https://bit.ly/1gGEZqV ) that jurors returned the not-guilty verdict on Friday. It’s the second time Manus has been found not guilty of a sexual abuse charge.

In May, a Chickasaw County jury found Manus not guilty of third-degree sexual abuse involving a 14-year-old girl. But the jury deadlocked on a charge involving a younger girl, and a mistrial was declared.

Manus was tried again on the second charge, with the trial being moved to Bremer County.

Manus was mayor of Oelwein until his resignation in August 2014 after the abuse allegations were made.

Manus said Friday after the verdict that “it’s going to take a long time to get back to my normal life.”
