LOWELL, Ark. (AP) - Councilors are expected to consider a proposal next week that would permit alcohol sales at events held in city parks.

The Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports (https://bit.ly/1Kdu6qm ) that the ordinance will be reviewed Tuesday and gives city councilors the authority to approve alcohol sales at events on a case by case basis.

A previous proposal to sell alcohol during the city’s annual Mudtown Days festival in May failed with a 4-4 vote in February. A similar proposal also failed in April. The ordinance will need a majority to pass.

City Councilor Dean Bitner says if the ordinance wins approval, alcoholic beverages could be served in October at an ATV mud race event being planned by the city.
