PERKINSTON, Miss. (AP) - Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College is spending $6 million to upgrade athletics facilities on its Perkinston campus in Stone County.

Athletic Director Burt Pickard tells WLOX-TV in Biloxi (https://bit.ly/1faDct0 ) the expansion to the football stadium includes classrooms, a new training room and more. He says it is the first major upgrade since the stadium was built in 1949.

Pickard says a third floor of the addition will be a press box, which officials said would allow more access for media groups for visiting teams.

MGCCC President Mary Graham says with a good balance of academics and extracurricular activities, more students will be drawn to the school and will stay in school.

The school also is upgrading concession stands and bleachers.
