SHAWANO, Wis. (AP) - Shawano police credit some people on a pontoon boat with helping them capture a fleeing suspect.

According to the Shawano Leader (https://bit.ly/1TJqyQX ), Police Chief Mark Kohl says an officer tried to stop the suspect’s vehicle around 11 p.m. Friday after spotting it traveling with a burned out headlight. After a brief chase, he says, the suspect jumped from the car, ran into the Wolf River and tried to swim away.

Kohl says officers set up a perimeter while the people on the pontoon boat maintained visual contact with the suspect. After officers caught the suspect they took in to the Shawano County Jail, where he was being held on outstanding warrants.

The Shawano man faces potential charges of drunken driving-second offense, fleeing an officer, resisting arrest and possessing drug paraphernalia.
