LETTERKENNY, Pa. (AP) - State Police say troopers in southern Pennsylvania have shot a man who fired at them, striking a trooper in the leg.

They say the suspect is 43-year-old Larry Richard Woodall. He was flown to Hershey Medical Center following the shooting just before 8:30 p.m. Friday in Letterkenny Township, Franklin County. His condition was not immediately known.

Police say troopers from the Chambersburg barracks were responding to a call about Woodall firing a gun from his front porch. They say Woodall had a rifle when troopers arrived, and they ordered him to drop it, but he refused.

They say Woodall fired at the troopers, striking one in the right leg. Police say troopers returned fire, striking Woodall.

The wounded trooper was treated at Chambersburg Hospital and released.

An investigation is continuing.
