TAYLORSVILLE, N.C. (AP) - A huge fire has engulfed a church in Taylorsville, and authorities suggest severe weather may have caused it.

Local media outlets report the fire tore through the main building of Bethlehem Baptist Church on Saturday. No injuries have been reported.

Pictures posted online show the roof to the sanctuary completely engulfed in fire.

WCNC-TV in Charlotte reports (https://bit.ly/1feFEi3) that while firefighters don’t know what started the blaze, there was a severe thunderstorm in the area at the time the fire erupted. The firefighters said the storm had produced a lot of lightning.

Fire crews from throughout Alexander County, as well as adjacent Caldwell County and the city of Hickory were assisting in fighting the fire.

Taylorsville is about 65 miles north of Charlotte.
