COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS, Utah (AP) - An hours-long SWAT standoff in Cottonwood Heights with a man wanted on several warrants ended peacefully early Saturday.

KSL-TV in Salt Lake City reports (https://bit.ly/1HGsJgx) that Cottonwood Heights police were able to arrest 43-year-old Gabriel Roybal just after midnight.

The standoff lasted for more than six hours and led to nearby residents being evacuated from their homes.

According to police, they initially tried to arrest Roybal on warrants for alleged robbery and fleeing and possession of a stolen vehicle.

Roybal allegedly retreated into his house from his garage after spotting an approaching officer.

SWAT teams from Sandy and South Jordan also assisted in the arrest.
