MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) - Ball State University President Paul Ferguson and members of his cabinet are not getting pay raises during the 2015-16 budget year.

The board of trustees on Friday adopted a $345 million general fund budget that includes no pay raises for the executives.

Fergusons tells The Star Press (https://tspne.ws/1LkWiKL ) that the money that would have gone for raises for him and cabinet members should go to faculty and staff for merit raises. He says they believe in the university and want to provide an additional financial reward for outstanding faculty and staff.

The budget includes a 2 percent increase in funding for salaries plus additional funds for merit pay.

Ferguson took over the presidency a year ago at a base salary of $450,000.
