SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) - An annual conference for state legislators is drawing more than 1,000 lawmakers from across the southern U.S. to Savannah this weekend.

Organizers say lawmakers from 15 states are attending the 69th annual Southern Legislative Conference. It’s a chance for elected officials throughout the region to network and share approaches to common issues.

Alabama state Sen. Quinton Ross, Democratic leader of his state’s Senate, said he hopes to get some ideas to take back home as Alabama legislators work to solve budget problems during a special session.

WTOC-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1OmE7CN ) the lawmakers’ conference is expected to have a sizable economic impact for Savannah, filling nearly 3,000 hotel rooms and bringing in an estimated $2.4 million.
