SHELBURNE, Vt. (AP) - The snake isn’t the kind one would typically find at a rural Vermont pond.

Shelburne police say the 6-foot snake spotted and seized from Shelburne Pond Saturday is most likely someone’s abandoned pet boa constrictor.

Police say they received a call at about 1:30 p.m. from someone who saw the snake at the pond’s fishing access area.

The Burlington Free Press reports (https://bfpne.ws/1I240md ) that Vermont Fish and Game officials gave police instructions on how to care for the snake while it was awaiting transport to a reptile rehabilitation center.

Shelburne Pond is located about 10 miles from Burlington.

Anyone with information about the snake is asked to call the Shelburne Police Department at 802-985-8051.
